Dear brothers and sisters,

Today’s readings centre around true wisdom as opposed to folly. Folly comes from attempts to escape anxiety and distress in a frantic search for security and comfort. We are very insecure. People commonly turn to things that distract us or make us comfortable in the short run. Many of these ‘solutions’ can become addictions: money, alcohol, work, food, gambling, drugs, fitness and so on. We desire to have more and more but we can never get enough. We fail to notice and appreciate what we have and what we are offered. We become increasingly insensitive and oblivious to the needs of our fellow human beings and our relationship with God.
