This is the Patronal Feast of the Carmelite Order and the Feast of the Brown Scapular.
The Rule of St. Albert has been lived out for centuries by the Carmelite family, including lay associates, throughout Europe. Many people in addition, shared to some extent the Carmelite spirit, through a devout wearing of the Brown Scapular as a sign of dedication to Our Lady. There is an ancient tradition by which Mary was thought to have bestowed the gift of the Brown Scapular on first English-born General of the Carmelite Order, St. Simon Stock near Cambridge on July 16th 1251.
